New Bar and Dining Venue Approved for Movie World’s Former Café

A recent development application lodged with the Gold Coast City Council has confirmed that the former Stars Café at Warner Bros. Movie World will be redeveloped into a bar and dining venue.

Approved earlier this month, the application is described as:

The approval provides the first official indication of the venue’s future direction, following more than a year of speculation and internal works on-site.

The redevelopment will retain the Stars name while reconfiguring the venue as a bar and seated dining area, a notable change from its former cafe format.

The future of the former cafe has been the subject of ongoing speculation, with various rumours circulating over the past few months, including Grill’d, a sports bar, and a private function space. The confirmed approval now points toward a general bar and dining offering, accessible to all guests.

It is not yet confirmed whether this redevelopment is the same project referenced in the May 2024 “Around the Park” update, where Movie World teased the arrival of “a new dining experience.” No further details regarding theming, capacity, or an opening timeline have been made public at this stage.
